But dont get me wrong. It’s great that they ARE doing their best to earn a living from their work, it’s something we should all tip our hat to, but this has been a lot more show than substance.

What’s not to understand? They were unhappy with the financial opportunities Keen was providing them with, and they decided to go off on their own. Happens all of the time over on Modern Tales. Despite Kurtz’s somewhat self-serving comments on it, it’s not that important.

I don’t think it’s a “whole lot of noise about nothing.” I’ve talked to many people who’ve planned (and proceeded to) start their own webcomic, and for a while, making it to KeenSpot was like a far-off dream… the reality of it is something more checkered. I think it’s an important thing to note that these people leaving weren’t just a handful of faces on the sidelines, but some of KeenSpot’s heaviest hitters: take note of which characters from what comics are being represented on the Free Comic Day cover of the KeenSpot comic… and which of those characters are part of comics that LEFT – I can name at least two off of the top of my head. Sure, this isn’t news that will shake the world down, but I definitely think that isn’t about NOTHING. We have yet to see where Blank Label goes, but at the very least, it’s new options (and goals) for other creators.
