Well, it’s Free Comic Book Day. Or as I like to call it, “Christmas in Springtime.” I’ve posted all over the LiveJournal scenes I subscribe to that I’d be at Atomic City Comics on 6th and South Street in Philadelphia. I’ll be getting my stuff, and basically hanging out/helping out all day/handing out Biscuit Press flyers to random folks (flyers, because I can’t afford to make books for us what with E3 and all). If one stranger comes up to me and goes “Oh my god… you do The Hoojie Crew/Just Saying!” I think I’d shit myself with glee.
For those of you who are unaware of this event(?!), the basic breakdown is like this: All the major publishers got the fantastic idea somehow to produce a bunch of special free comics one day a year. It’s good for us, because we get free swag. It’s good for them, because they get to show off their product to people who otherwise wouldn’t buy it, and therefore are now more inclined to after sampling it. It’s also a great opportunity for independent publishers to get exposure, because they get to show off books that would be otherwise buried or unavailable, potentially hooking new readers. So basically it’s a win for everyone.
Anyhoo, I’m getting ready to party. And I’ll do a bit on the highlights of the FCBD books later tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, get your ass to your local comic shop and enjoy the free goodies!
